Nakamura not happy at wing role
Celtic star Shunsuke Nakamura believes he is being wasted on the flank instead of in his more accustomed central role.
Manager Gordon Strachan has leapt to the Japanese international playmaker’s defence after recent criticism but the 27-year-old admits he has not been playing well.
The former Reggina star accepts he has struggled to adapt to playing in a different country but feels the decision to play him on the wing is not helping his battle.
Nakamura told the Scottish Sun: “I feel better about Scottish football after playing here for two months.
“It has taken me a long time to get used to it but now I know what the SPL is all about.
“It’s very tough and physical and I admit I have found it hard to adapt to that.
“Now I want to illustrate my ability to the Celtic fans. I haven’t been playing well but I want that to change.
“My best position is in central midfield and that is where I really want to play.
“Right now I am out on the right hand side and I just don’t feel like I’m having enough influence there.
“Obviously I have to take Gordon Strachan’s guidance on the matter but I’d like to talk to him about playing there.
“However, the last thing I want to do is disturb the balance of the team and the final decision always rests with him.”
