F1 calender set at 19 races
26/10/2005 - 14:27:58Formula One bosses have confirmed a 19-race calendar for next season, starting in Bahrain.
The sport’s commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone concluded weeks of frantic negotiations by submitting a draft calendar to world governing body the FIA, who today released it as a provisional schedule.
Despite objections from some team bosses, the calendar will continue to feature 19 races.
The first grand prix comes in Bahrain on March 12, with Australia losing its coveted season-opening slot due to a clash with the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Malaysia follows just a week later before the trip to Melbourne on April 2.
Britain’s grand prix at Silverstone is moved from its traditional July slot to a June 11 date, which clashes with the first Sunday of the World Cup finals.
