ISPCC calls for laws protecting children in wake of Ferns Report
25/10/2005 - 13:43:14The ISPCC has said that residential child abuse will continue to happen unless legislation is introduced to protect children.
The group is calling for mandatory reporting of child abuse and Garda vetting of anyone working with children.
The calls come in the wake of the Ferns Report, which is being presented to the Cabinet by Brian Lenihan today.
The report is due to be published at about 4pm today and will name priests involved in the allegations.
Spokesperson for the ISPCC Grace Kelly says that recommendations are not sufficient and that children need to be protected by law.
