Nesbitt to host IFTAs
Actor James Nesbitt is to host the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) for the third successive year, it was announced today.
The Irish star, who has become a firm favourite at the annual Dublin awards show, said he was delighted to be invited back.
“Presenting the show on the evening is a chance to really be involved in this special event, which showcases the best of Irish talent,” he said.
“It is an evening in which we celebrate both film and television and it gives Irish artists well-deserved recognition in their homeland for their work both here and internationally.
“I am also thrilled to have received a nomination for Murphy’s Law, and proud to have received it from the Irish Film and Television Awards.”
The star of Cold Feet and Millions is also hoping to pick up his second Irish Film and Television Award this year as he is nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in Murphy’s Law.
Irish Film and Television Awards CEO Áine Moriarty said she was delighted that Nesbitt was to host this year’s show.
“James has been an excellent host of the awards. He brings charm, intelligence and humour to the ceremony,” she said.
“He is not just a great actor but is also quite a funny guy both on stage and off. James is well respected by his peers and will be a great host for the awards ceremony.”
The IFTAs will be held in the RDS Dublin on November 5 with a host of celebrities gathering to celebrate outstanding Irish talent.
Last year’s show featured guests such Maureen O’Hara, Pierce Brosnan, John Cleese, Andie MacDowell, Gay Byrne and Brendan Gleeson.
Organisers have added an extra dimension this year with a live broadcast on RTÉ One, beginning at 9.30pm.
