ICTU delays entry into partnership talks
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has announced that it will defer entry into talks on a new social partnership deal.
ICTU has said it will tell union delegates later today that a decision to enter talks on a partnership deal should not be made at this time
In an emergency meeting of ICTU's executive council last night, members voted unanimously to defer such talks following SIPTU's decision to pull-out, pending clarification on a number of issues
SIPTU want more specific commitment from the government on proposals to tackle job displacement and exploitation of migrant workers.
The Taoiseach commented yesterday that he could not imagine a new partnership deal without the country’s largest union.
SIPTU president, Jack O’Conner said that they need to achieve some degree of clarity on assurances from the government before they can consider entering talks.
In relation to the Irish Ferries dispute, he said he believes that a great many people, including the Taoiseach, are appalled by it and would like to see the proposals there avoided.
