Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga today with a 4-0 thrashing of Duisburg.

Goals from Michael Ballack and Ze Roberto before the break and Roque Santa Cruz and Claudio Pizarro after the interval ensured a comfortable win for the defending champions.

Werder Bremen had been top at the start of play but their match at Hannover finished goalless - Werder's Frank Fahrenhorst was sent off eight minutes from the end.

Fourth placed Schalke also lost ground on Bayern as their match at Wolfsburg was also goalless.

But Borussia Monchengladbach continued their impressive start to the season with a 4-1 home win against Kaiserslautern, while Hertha Berlin beat Mainz 3-1.

Eintracht Frankfurt spanked Cologne 6-3, while Arminia Bielefeld snatched a dramatic 3-2 win at Nurnberg -- who twice led.
