New reforms to combat Govt over-spending

21/10/2005 - 07:50:55
Minister for Finance Brian Cowen has unveiled a wide range of reforms aimed at clamping down on over-spending on major Government projects.

The move comes following the scrapping of the Health Service Executive's multi million P-PARS payroll system.

The 12-point plan is designed to prevent costs on certain projects escalating beyond their original estimates.

Under the new rules, infrastructure projects and consultant’s contracts will be subjected to a full analysis by the Department of Finance.

All projects with price tags in excess of €30m will be monitored and reviewed on an on-going basis.
