ESRI report: Schoolgirls do not get enough exercise

A new report on sport in Ireland by the Economic and Social Research Institute has revealed that almost one in four Irish schoolgirls gets little or no exercise outside of class hours.

The study surveyed more than 7,000 primary and secondary school students and found that significant numbers of school-goers did not receive enough exercise.

The average second level student gets under 70 minutes of physical education per week, just over half of the amount set out in the Department of Education's syllabus.
