'Above average' heart disease death rate in Ireland
20/10/2005 - 08:43:25New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed that Ireland has an above-average rate of premature deaths from heart disease.
Thirty-eight per cent of deaths in 2004 were as a result of cardiovascular disease, while just over 25% were cancer-related.
Doctors say even very healthy people could be at risk from high cholesterol because it is genetic, but they say it is still vital that exercise and a balanced diet are part of everyone’s lifestyle.
