Huge growth in Irish trade with China

New statistics have shown that Irish exports to China are growing faster than to any other market.

Last year, exports rose by nearly 300%, while in the first six months of 2005, they increased again by some 38%.

The number of Irish companies doing business with China has risen from 10 in 1999 to more than 250 today, while there are more than 40 companies established on the ground there.

The Ireland-China Association has said huge potential for more development exists, especially in the services, education and tourism, food and beverage and engineering sectors.

The association has organised a seminar in Dublin today to give advice to companies who want to break into the Chinese market.

Enterprise Ireland say there are many barriers for Irish companies in China, such as language, distance and bureaucracy.
