ISEQ loses 2% of value

The ISEQ index of shares was hit hard today as it tumbled 131.91 points (2%) to close at 6473.8.

Among the biggest fallers was building material group CRH, which saw its share price plummet 59c to €20.85. Construction rival Grafton also saw a decline, down 20c to €8.26.

The negative trend was reflected in the financial sector where all four banks saw falls. The biggest came at Irish Life and Permanent which fell 40c to €14.20. AIB was down 25c to €16.65, BoI shed 13c to close at €12.66, while Anglo Irish Bank had a very bad day, shedding 26c to €11.05.

Elsewhere, the gloom continued with Paddy Power down 40c to €14, and Kerry Group down 57c to €18.13.

Dragon Oil saw its share price down 19c to €2.13, while low-cost airline Ryanair had a 12c fall to €6.63.

Jurys bucked the overall trend today to recover from yesterday's losses. It closed up 17c at €18.89.
