Rovers star gets red card overturned

18/10/2005 - 13:42:15
Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili has won his appeal against his red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity against Liverpool on Saturday, but Bolton’s Ricardo Gardner has lost his claim and will serve a one-match ban.

Georgian international Khizanishvili was sent off by referee Mark Halsey after tripping Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse on the edge of the penalty area but, after the appeal was upheld by an FA disciplinary commission, he will be available to play Birmingham on Saturday.

Gardner was red-carded against Chelsea also for denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity when he committed a handball as Michael Essien was looking to run through on goal.

The Jamaican will now be suspended for Sunday’s home game against West Brom.
