Powerscourt out of Breeders' Cup

18/10/2005 - 10:39:56
Powerscourt is to miss the Breeders’ Cup Turf on October 29 after failing to satisfy trainer Aidan O’Brien with his work yesterday morning.

The five-year-old put in a career-best performance to win the Arlington Million in August and was the second favourite behind Azamour for the mile-and-a-half contest.

“Things were looking up generally with Powerscourt late last week and he looked like going to the States, but he just wasn’t right on Monday morning,” O’Brien told the Racing Post.

“We had to make our entries by noon so we decided against entering him.”

O’Brien still expects to have five runners at the Breeders’ Cup and outlined his contenders for the meeting.

“The plan at this stage is for them all to run – Ad Valorem in the Mile, Ace in the Turf, Ivan Denisovich in the Juvenile, Mona Lisa in the Filly & Mare Turf and Oratorio in the Classic,” he added.
