Investigation launched into alleged PSNI corruption

18/10/2005 - 10:24:30
Police in the North have begun an internal criminal investigation into alleged corruption within the force.

This follows the ruling of a High Court judge who found evidence that someone within the PSNI undermined a metal firm that lost out on a vehicle armour-plating contract.

He awarded Northern Ireland Sheet Metal Works Ltd £400,000 (€583,200) in the breach of contract action they were pursuing in court.

Both politicians and the Policing Board then called for a full investigation, which the PSNI says has now been initiated.

The probe will be supervised by Assistant Chief Constable Sam Kinkaid, who will be advised by an external independent expert.
