First anti-cannabis drive for Ireland
18/10/2005 - 14:29:47The Department of Health has announced that it will be launching the country's first anti-cannabis drive this week.
The radio and poster campaign is aimed at teenagers to highlight the dangers associated with the drug.
Irish teenagers are twice as likely to have tried cannabis as their counterparts in other European countries.
Spokesperson for the Health Promotion Unit, Martina Byrne, said there is a perception that cannabis is not a dangerous drug.
But, she said, the reality is that the drug slows down the short-term memory, stops concentration and reduces motor skills and can prevent young users from succeeding in the academic and sporting arenas.
