Second quake hits Turkey's Aegean coast
17/10/2005 - 11:21:41A second strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 shook a port city in western Turkey today, only hours after a magnitude 5.7-quake sent terrified residents running from their homes.
The previous quake caused minor damage but no injuries. The second quake caused further damage, smashing windows, witnesses said.
The first earthquake struck at 8.45am (6.45am Irish time) and was centred in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Izmir, the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory said. The second quake struck at 12.45pm (10.45am Irish time).
