Man gets life for murdering partner’s ex-boyfriend
A thirty three year-old Limerick man has been sentenced to life in prison at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of his partners ex-boyfriend on August 10 2004.
David O'Brien who lived in Mill Lane in Drogheda, County Louth was sentenced for killing thirty-eight year old Martin Murray.
The court heard how O’Brien returned to the flat he shared with his girlfriend after a night drinking and that he had also taken cannabis and prescribed drugs.
The accused found his girlfriend with the dead man and believed she was trying to get back together with him.
In the ensuing row, O’Brien stabbed Murray who fell down the steps leading to the apartment in Millcourt, Mill Lane.
The jury were told that O’ Brien followed Murray with a knife, cut his throat and then stamped on his head.
