Elton guzzled whiskey to combat drug highs
Elton John used to guzzle a bottle-and-a-half of whisky every night just to "come down" from drug binges.
The British rocker reveals the extent of his years of excess on indepth chat show Inside The Actor's Studio, which airs in America on Sunday, and insists he has enjoyed best 15 years of his life since he quit drink and drugs.
At the height of his hedonism, Elton reveals: "(There was) a lot of incredibly bad behaviour, incredible mood swings, a lot of misery, a lot of unhappiness.
"The drugs were the worst thing, the drink was really to come down off the drugs, but there's no denying that I was an alcoholic as well (as a drug addict) because I needed to drink a bottle-and-a-half of scotch at night to come down."
And Elton admits his drug highs didn't help him make sane fashion choices when it came to his outrageous stage costumes.
He adds: "There should have been an intervention for clothes."
