FG demands answers on cost of Port Tunnel

15/10/2005 - 08:39:17
Fine Gael is calling on the Government to come clean, once and for all, about the exact cost overrun of the Dublin Port Tunnel.

It is conservatively estimated that the project has a €250m price tag however the Opposition is claiming the final cost of the project will hit €1bn.

The tunnel, from Whitehall to Dublin Port, will take trucks out of Dublin city centre.

It is due to open to traffic early next year.

Fine Gael’s transport spokesperson Olivia Mitchell says she is be very concerned about cost over-runs, particularly in light of the fact contractors are on site for 18 months longer than planned.
