Thousands expected at stamp event
14/10/2005 - 07:21:11The hobby of stamp collecting is often dismissed as boring but today thousands of enthusiasts will descend on Dublin for a major event.
The Stampa international stamp exhibition at the RDS will feature more than €5m worth of stamps.
About 2,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event, which is being supported by An Post.
The state company is issuing a special set of four stamps to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the United Nations.
There are an estimated 20,000 stamp collectors in Ireland.
At last year’s Stampa exhibition, one lucky dealer purchased a stamp for under €50 that turned out to be worth €5,000.
