McFadden: In Smith we trust

13/10/2005 - 13:20:33
James McFadden is convinced Walter Smith will have Scotland better prepared for Euro 2008 qualifying than they were for the start of the World Cup campaign.

Former manager Berti Vogts oversaw the disappointing opening to Scotland’s qualifying campaign, which led to their failure to clinch a play-off place for the Germany-staged final.

But after bouncing back from Saturday’s shock defeat at home to Belarus with a 3-0 win in Slovenia on Wednesday, McFadden is convinced next time it will be a different story.

“I’m sure when the European Championships come around this game will be forgotten about,” said the Everton striker.

“But we are on the right lines and at least we have gone some way to putting Saturday’s game out of our minds.

“Hopefully we will get a good start to the next campaign and we have to make sure we go and win games to get a chance.

“If we get a good start then that should make the difference and we’d be able to go on from there.

“I am sure the manager will have us better prepared for the start of the next campaign.”
