County councillors seeking taxpayer-funded pensions
12/10/2005 - 07:53:35Ireland's county councillors are reportedly seeking pensions in a move that would cost taxpayers tens of millions of euro every year.
Reports this morning said councillors from all the main political parties were seeking pensions of up to €7,000 annually, despite the fact that they only work part-time.
The reports said Ireland’s 883 councillors already get paid more than €15,000-a-year and are also entitled to a once-off payment of €45,000 if they retire with at least 20 years of service.
