Mixed reviews for new Jordan movie

Director Neil Jordan has been given a rough time by the critics over his Irish-made Breakfast On Pluto, starring Liam Neeson and Stephen Rea.

Given sneak previews in the States and Canada, the story of a young transvestite searching for his mother, against a backdrop of IRA violence in 1970s London, has been panned for "dramatic shortcomings", "having limited appeal" and for being exhausting, awkward, chaotic and a "frustrating experience".

But - take your pick - the New York Times loved it as "a wonderful comedy with a goofy sense of the marvellous and absurd".
