McCreevy called before EU Parliament following comments in Sweden
12/10/2005 - 17:48:23Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has been called before the European Parliament to explain comments he made while on a trip to Sweden.
The Commissioner criticised the country's unions and its social model, which is based on voluntary agreements between workers and employers.
The Socialist group in the European Parliament today voted that the Commissioner and President Barroso, should explain if the comments are in line with Commission policy.
Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa said clarification was needed: “Was Charlie McCreevy speaking on behalf of the Commission or was he on a solo run?” He said. “He is, after all, the Commissioner responsible for the internal market.”
