Dailly won't join blame game

Scotland’s stand-in skipper Christian Dailly admits the players are as much to blame as Football Association chief David Taylor and former manager Berti Vogts for the failure to qualify for the World Cup finals.

The team are trying to pick up the pieces after their absence from next summer’s finals in Germany was confirmed following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Belarus at Hampden Park and Norway’s home win over Moldova later that day.

Since then SFA chief executive Taylor has been criticised and urged to reconsider his position, while Vogts has also come under fire for the poor start Scotland made to the campaign.

However, West Ham defender Dailly said: “I don’t think any one person is to blame.

“The bad thing is that we have a blame culture where everybody is looking for somebody to blame.

“But the players didn’t win the game on Saturday. We had a poor 45 minutes but that’s as bad as we have been since Walter (Smith) has come in. That’s how fragile we are.

“If people are blaming others then that’s nothing to do with us. We will just get on with our football.”
