School inspection reports to come next year

11/10/2005 - 15:32:31
The Minister for Education Mary Hanafin said today she intended to publish the new school inspection reports next January.

The minister was answering questions in the Dáil, where she ruled out any plans to introduce school league tables.

She said school inspection reports were fairer, and more balanced, than league tables.

Ms Hanafin said: "School inspection reports from whole-school evaluations and other inspections, when read in their entirety can provide balanced and well informed information on schools.

"The whole-school evaluation process involves an examination of all the relevant activities of a school, from the quality of teaching and learning to the availability of extra-curricular activities and the implementation of policies in areas such as bullying and health and safety."
