Expert group concludes home birthing a safe option

An expert group has reportedly recommended that home-birth services be made available to women throughout the country.

Reports this morning said the Domiciliary Births Group had concluded that giving birth at home was a safe option in low-risk pregnancies when backed with the necessary supports.

The group has reportedly recommended that the Health Service Executive offer home-birth services to expectant mothers throughout the country.

This morning's reports said it had also suggested that a grant could be paid to mothers who wanted to employ private midwifes.
