€350m to be spent on massive rail upgrade in Kildare

11/10/2005 - 08:23:35
Iarnród Éireann has announced plans to spend €350m on upgrading commuter rail services between Dublin and Co Kildare.

The company said the money would be spent on laying two new sets of tracks, as well as the construction of new stations and the renovation of existing facilities.

The upgrade is designed to allow a trebling of capacity on commuter lines and inter-city services leading into Dublin's Heuston Station.

It is expected to cause widespread disruption while the works take place between 2006 and 2009.
