Merkel 'to become Chancellor of Germany'
10/10/2005 - 09:04:38Conservative leader Angela Merkel is set to become Germany’s next Chancellor under an agreement reached between the country’s two main parties, a television channel reported today.
ZDF television cited no sources in a brief statement on the apparent agreement.
It said nothing about what would happen to incumbent Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in a power-sharing deal between his Social Democrats and Merkel’s conservatives.
