HSE clarifies position on medical card entitlements for the terminally ill
10/10/2005 - 17:21:16The Health Service Executive has moved to clarify the medical card entitlements of the terminally ill, claiming that such patients have never been automatically entitled to a medical card.
The HSE said this afternoon that they will continue to treat applications in those cases in as sensitive a manner as is possible.
The executive said there have been no changes in the way in such applications are treated, despite claims to the contrary by the Labour spokesperson on health Liz McManus.
The Tánaiste had blasted Ms McManus for what she described as using the terminally ill to score political points.
