Harney attacks Labour TD over medical cards claim
10/10/2005 - 13:28:10Tánaiste Mary Harney has launched a scathing attack on Labour Party TD Liz McManus, accusing her of using the terminally-ill as a political football.
Ms McManus has claimed that, under new guidelines, terminally-ill patients are being means-tested before being given a medical card.
However, speaking in Dublin today, Ms Harney said this was completely untrue.
"I take a poor view of any spokesperson for a party in the Oireachtas using terminally-ill people to score political points," she said.
"There has been no change whatever in the manner in which people are assessed for medical cards."
