Drugs body considers medicinal use of cannabis
09/10/2005 - 10:49:21The National Advisory Committee on Drugs (NACD) has said we could see cannabis being used for medical purposes in Ireland in the future.
A recent survey by the group has found that the majority of people would be comfortable with using the drug for medical reasons.
Director of the NACD Mairead Lyons said a new synthetic product is in clinical trials to "fully understand and appreciate the benefit of cannabis" for medical use.
She said that if those trials are successful, a product may be developed, but it was too early to judge yet.
