British anti-terror police arrest 10 in raids

08/10/2005 - 16:00:30
British anti-terror police today raided three addresses in London and the Midlands, making 10 arrests, Scotland Yard said.

They were held in connection with an ongoing investigation into suspected international terrorism in the UK.

But the investigation is separate from inquiries into the events in London during July, a spokesman said.

Three men were arrested in Croydon, south London, four in Wolverhampton and three in Derby.

Scotland Yard said that at about 4am police executed warrants at three residential addresses, making a total of 10 arrests, all on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The arrests were after an intelligence-led investigation involving police and the security service.

They were made with the assistance of local officers from the Metropolitan, West Midlands and Derbyshire police.

Searches were going on at all three addresses and it was likely these would continue for some time.

The men arrested were taken to police stations in the West Midlands, Derbyshire and central London to be interviewed by detectives from the Anti-Terrorist Branch.
