Hospital consultants to negotiate new contract
08/10/2005 - 08:54:02The Tánaiste has welcomed the prospect of fresh talks with hospital consultants.
The National Council of the Hospital Consultants Association is recommending its members enter talks on a new consultant contract.
Minister for Health Mary Harney has confirmed several hundred new consultant posts are planned in the coming years and that a new contract was vital to support reform.
Contract negotiations between the Government and hospital consultants have been delayed for up to a year and a half because of a row over medical negligence cover.
Minister Harney said she was looking forward to effective business-like talks to reach agreement on a contract in the shortest possible time frame.
