Joyce ready for Aussie onslaught

07/10/2005 - 18:12:39
Ireland captain Padraig Joyce reckons his side are ready for an expected physical onslaught from Australia in the forthcoming International Rules series.

The Galway attacker, who has played in nine previous Tests against the Aussies, is certain his men can stand up to any rough-house tactics employed by their physically bigger hosts over the two Tests.

"The intimidation comes and goes as we've seen over the years," said the three-time All-star.

"We all remember the incident with Peter Canavan a few years ago but that's all in the past at this stage."

Australia, coached by Essendon's Kevin Sheedy this year, will be all out to make up for a disheartening series loss in 2004.

"They will try to unnerve us because they are a proud nation who won't have taken last year's defeat too kindly," added Joyce.

"However, the panel that has been selected is by no means small and we'll be able to look after ourselves."
