Taxpayers foot 'unnecessary' €600 taxi bill
07/10/2005 - 08:17:14The National Treatment Purchase Fund has been accused of wasting €600 of Irish taxpayers' money on sending a patient from Dublin to Limerick via taxi.
Reports this morning said the female patient was due to undergo a minor eye operation in Limerick that did not require her to get a taxi.
Her Dublin GP, Michael O'Brien, has reportedly insisted that she was well enough to travel by bus or rail.
The NTPF was set up to reduce hospital waiting lists by purchasing private treatment for public patients.
