Seven held in drugs raids

Gardaí were questioning seven men today about the seizure of cocaine, cannabis and heroin worth more than €1m.

Officers from the Garda National Drug Unit carried out raids in Louth, Meath and Dublin last night, along with local officers.

Three men were arrested in Louth and Meath and seven kilos (15.4lb) of cocaine and three kilos (6.6lb) of heroin were seized.

In Coolock in north Dublin, gardaí arrested four men and seized seven kilos of cocaine along with a large quantity of mixing agent and a quatity of cash and cannabis.

One of the arrested men, a 34-year-old from the border region, is believed to be a major drugs importer.

A garda spokesman said the men were being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at garda stations in North Dublin, while the men arrested in Louth and Meath were being held at Navan and Drogheda garda stations.
