Live Register figures ‘show govt policies are working’
07/10/2005 - 12:44:46The Government has claimed that the latest drop in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits shows its economic policies are working.
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office today show the number of people on the Live Register has fallen by just over 7,000 in the past year.
Government Chief Whip Tom Kitt said this was proof that the job strategy adopted by the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition was proving successful.
"Ireland's performance with regard to unemployment is the best in Europe," he said. "I think it's a very good indicator that our policies are working."
