Strachan sees positives in world cup break

05/10/2005 - 10:37:25
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes the international break can have a positive impact on his preparations for the Bank of Scotland Premier League clash with Hearts.

The Hoops produced their best display of the season in the 5-0 win at Livingston, their last match ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

While Celtic would have liked to have built on their momentum, Strachan recognises the free weekend gives players such as Neil Lennon and Alan Thompson more time to attain match fitness for the visit of the SPL leaders on October 15.

Strachan told the Celtic View: “There are going to be a lot of players away over the next two weeks.

“We are not going to be able to work as a complete team, but we will be able to work in smaller units and on individual players.

“It is also going to allow some of the players a chance to recharge their batteries.

“Alan Thompson is getting back to full fitness and Lenny has been working incredibly hard to keep his fitness levels up and the two weeks will give them both a bit of extra time.

“It is a break from competitive matches but there is still a lot of work that can be done.”
