Teachers seek greater say in educational decisions
05/10/2005 - 10:41:28Ireland's three teachers' unions have called for their members to be given a greater say in the educational decisions that affect schoolchildren and young people.
In a joint statement to mark World Teachers Day today, the ASTI, INTO and TUI said the role of teachers had expanded greatly over the past 20 years or so.
It said teachers made a huge contribution to "school communities" in Ireland and throughout the world and helped children to develop as a whole rather than just academically.
“We urge today that the voice of teachers everywhere be heard in shaping the educational decisions which impact on school communities and on the future life changes of children and young people,” the statement said.
