‘Migrants must earn €55,000 to qualify for green card’
05/10/2005 - 08:21:06Migrant workers will reportedly have to earn at least €55,000-a-year to qualify for the Government's planned green card system.
The Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition announced the establishment of the system earlier this year due to criticism of the current work permits scheme.
Minister for Enterprise Michael Martin revealed yesterday that the green cards will be issued to skilled staff in 10 sectors where labour shortages exist.
The reports said "informed sources" had indicated that those hoping to qualify would have to earn in the region of €55,000-a-year or more.
