Govt comes under further Dáil attack over PPARS system
The Government has come under further attack in the Dáil today over the controversial €150m computerised payroll system for the health service.
The introduction of the PPARS system is set to be suspended by the HSE tomorrow pending a complete review of its quality and value for money.
The system, which was originally due to cost just €9m, has been dogged by a number of errors, including one in which a worker was overpaid by €1m.
Speaking in the Dáil today, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said the system was a shambles and the Government was to blame.
Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte, meanwhile, said the only people who benefited from the system were the consultants who made millions out of its introduction.
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, rejected the criticism and accused the opposition of being unhelpful at a time when the authorities were trying to rectify problems with a much-needed project.
