ISEQ falls back from 6900 mark
The ISEQ index of shares failed to break the 6900 mark today as it fell back 1.68 points to 6889.61.
The market today reported continued strong growth in equity trading volumes in the first nine months of 2005.
The value of shares traded on the ISE increased by 50% to €80.7 billion for the nine months ended 30 September 2005 from €53.9 billion for the same period in 2004, itself a year of very strong turnover.
Average daily turnover was €425 million, up 49% on the 2004 average of €285million. The average daily number of transactions on the Irish Stock Exchange increased by 29% to 3,075 for the nine months to the end of September, 2005 compared to 2,388 for the same period in 2004.
Companies raised €194 million in the third quarter of 2005, bringing the total money raised by companies this year to over €1 billion.
Construction companies had a mostly bad day today. CRH fell 28c to €22.95, Kingspan fell 5c to €10.60 while McInerney was unchanged at €8.70. Grafton fell 4c to €8.42 while Readymix rose 1c to €2.33.
Bookmaker Paddy Power fell 15c to €14.80.
Jurys rose €15c to €18.75.
It was also a mostly good day for the financials. AIB was unchanged at €17.95 while Bank of Ireland was up 1c to €13.26.
Anglo Irish Bank rose 19c to €11.56 but Irish Life and Permanent was down 3c to €15.12.
