EU member states approve easing of BSE restrictions

EU member states have approved plans to ease restrictions on the sale of beef that were introduced as a result of the BSE crisis.

The move will increase the age limit at which the back bone must be removed from slaughtered cattle from 12 months to 24 months.

The EC said it should pave the way for products like T-bone steaks and the Italian Fiorentina steak to be produced in the EU again.
