Mother and son escape petrol bomb attack

04/10/2005 - 07:16:56
A mother and her 16-year-old son escaped serious injury early today when petrol bombs were thrown into their east Belfast home.

Two devices were hurled through the living room window but failed to ignite, while a third smashed against the outside of the house and exploded, causing scorch damage.

The attack was launched against the house at Laurel Grove Dale in the Castlereagh area shortly after midnight.

A police spokesman said it is believed the attacker or attackers used a stone to smash the living room window before throwing the petrol bombs in.

Condemning the incident as potentially life-threatening, detectives appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.

They especially wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen a light-coloured car, possibly a Ford Focus, in the area prior to the attack and which may have been used to make off afterwards.
