CWU expected to sanction strike ballot at An Post

The Communications Workers Union is expected to sanction a ballot of its members on possible industrial action at An Post.

The move is expected to be approved at a special conference the union is holding today to discuss the company's refusal to pay wage rises due under the social partnership process.

An Post has claimed it is unable to grant the cost-of-living increases due under the Sustaining Progress deal, but the CWU said it did not accept this argument.

Spokesman Steve Fitzpatrick said: "We feel now we have no option but to see what action we need to take to get that money paid."
