Review of medical card contracts to get underway today

04/10/2005 - 07:45:47
A review of the Government's medical card contract with GPs is due to get underway at the Labour Relations Commission today.

The Irish Medical Organisation agreed to the move last week as part of a deal over the introduction of new doctor-only medical cards.

At present, GPs are paid more for treating some patients than for others, a situation Minister for Health Mary Harney wants to change.

Today's talks are expected to focus on establishing a timetable for negotiations.

The IMO will then begin consulting its members to find out what doctors want in the new contracts.
