Poland: Bus crash toll rises to 13
30/09/2005 - 13:27:48Officials have increased the death toll in today's bus crash in eastern Poland to 13, most of them students aged 18-19.
Bialystok Mayor Ryszard Tur announced a three-day mourning period and called on the city’s residents to donate blood for the injured.
The students were on an annual pilgrimage to Poland’s most sacred Catholic shrine when their bus collided with a truck and burst into flames.
The bus was carrying students in their final year of high school from the north-eastern city of Bialystok to Czestochowa in southern Poland, the home of the renowned Jasna Gora shrine, said Zlotka Korzeniewska, the school principal.
