Enda Kenny welcomes release of Rossport Five

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny today described the release of the Rossport Five as very welcome news, and said he hoped all sides would participate actively once a mediator is appointed.

Green Party leader Trevor Sargent also welcomed the news of the men’s release, but said the whole process had been flawed from the start and the Government had sown the seeds that led to the dispute.

Labour's Tommy Broughan called for a period of calm and reflection.

Farm group, the ICSA said the decision to release the men was a sensible one, and said it supported a farmer's right to defend their farms from wealthy and greedy private enterprises.
