Six dead in Portuguese shantytown shed blaze

Four children and two adults were killed this morning in a fire in the Fim do Mundo (End of the World) shantytown in Cascais, about 25 miles west of Lisbon.

The victims were women aged 39 and 19, a 16-year-old girl, and three boys aged 12, 10 and five, officials said.

About 19 firefighters and five fire engines were sent to the shantytown to put out the fire which broke out in the early hours of the morning.

Police were investigating the causes of the incident.
